One of the purposes of Kingston Stitchers is to encourage people to embroider and make.
We have a thriving group of Young Stitchers -who meet up once a month at Tudor Drive Library. Until recently the group was run by our long-term member Karen Hodge, with help from other embroiderers who were keen to pass on their skills to a younger generation of stitchers. Karen kept it going through Covid times on Zoom, when lockdown restrictions were eased we reverted to face to face meetings, working together and having a fun afternoon. We have 5 adult helpers and about 10 members aged 6-16 who are really keen and committed.

On the first Saturday of every month, we have Stitch Saturday, an informal stitch-and-chat get-together for adults run by two of our members. It is held at Surbiton Library and is a lovely session that is very enjoyable.
I’ve been rereading Clare Hunter’s book, Threads of Life which is part history of sewing and part a memoir of her experiences of stitching and I leave you with a quote from her book
Sewing is a way to mark our existence on cloth; patterning our place in the world, voicing our identity, sharing something of ourselves with others and leaving the indelible evidence of our presence in stitches held fast by our touch.
